FAQ & Support

Frequently asked questions about PillenKompass

General

What is PillenKompass?

PillenKompass is a reminder and tracking app for hormonal contraceptives. It reliably reminds you to take your contraceptive and helps you keep track of your cycle — discreet, ad-free, and without any cloud connection.

PillenKompass is not a medical device and does not replace medical advice. If you have health-related questions, please consult a doctor.

Which contraceptive methods are supported?
  • Pill (21/7, 24/4, 28/0, extended cycle, custom)
  • Vaginal ring
  • Contraceptive patch
  • 3-month injection

During setup you choose your method and when your current cycle started. The app automatically calculates your phases from that information.

Are my data saved or shared anywhere?

No. All data — intakes, symptoms, events, settings — stays exclusively on your device. There is no server, no cloud, no user account, and no tracking. PillenKompass does not transmit any data externally.

If you uninstall the app, all data is deleted. Create a JSON export as a backup first.

Reminders

How do reminders work?

You set a daily reminder time. If you haven't confirmed by then, the app sends up to two follow-up reminders at configurable intervals — up to 3 per day in total. Once you confirm your intake, no further reminders are sent for that day.

You can snooze any reminder by tapping "Remind me later".

What are discreet notifications?

When discreet notifications are enabled, the notification text contains no direct reference to contraception or health — for example "Time for your daily routine" instead of "Take your pill". This keeps the reminder inconspicuous if someone else sees your lock screen.

With PillenKompass Plus you can set the notification text completely yourself.

I'm not receiving notifications — what can I do?

Check the following:

  • Permissions: Settings → Apps → PillenKompass → Notifications → Allow
  • Do Not Disturb: Make sure a Focus mode isn't blocking PillenKompass
  • Battery saver: Some manufacturers (Huawei, Samsung, Xiaomi) restrict background activity — explicitly allow PillenKompass in battery settings
  • Reminder time: Confirm that a reminder is configured in the app

Use the "Send test notification" button in Settings to check whether notifications work at all.

Can I set multiple reminder times?

Yes. You can set a primary reminder time and up to two follow-up reminders. Follow-up reminders are only sent if the intake has not yet been confirmed.

Cycle & Intake

How do I confirm my intake?

Tap the large confirmation button on the home screen. The intake is recorded for today and reminders for that day are deactivated. You can also confirm directly from the notification.

What if I forgot to take my pill?

You can add or remove past intakes in the calendar or timeline. Open the corresponding day and adjust the status.

PillenKompass does not provide medical recommendations for missed doses. Please read the package insert for your product or consult your doctor.

What do the phase names (Active / Break) mean?

PillenKompass distinguishes two phases:

  • Active: Days on which you take your contraceptive (e.g. 21 days for the classic pill)
  • Break: Pill-free days (e.g. 7 days). No intake reminders are sent during the break.

In extended cycle mode there are no regular breaks.

How does supply tracking work?

In Settings you can enter your current supply (number of tablets, patches, etc.). The app deducts one unit each day a confirmed intake is recorded and warns you when stock drops below a configurable threshold, so you can reorder in time.

Data & Security

How do I lock the app?

Go to Settings → Security and enable app protection. Unlocking then uses your fingerprint, face recognition or your device passcode — the app does not manage a PIN of its own. The app locks automatically when it moves to the background.

How do I export my data?

Go to Settings → Data → Export. You can export your data as a JSON file (free). With PillenKompass Plus, CSV export and a PDF report are also available.

The JSON export can also serve as a backup — you can re-import it later via Settings → Data → Import.

What happens to my data if I uninstall the app?

All locally stored data is deleted. Since PillenKompass does not use cloud synchronisation, there is no way to restore data after uninstalling — unless you created a JSON export beforehand.
